MARTINE VASSAL
Conseil Départemental des Bouches-du-Rhône Président Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence President Martine Vassal is a French politician, President of the Conseil départemental des Bouches-du-Rhône and president of the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. She is currently one of the few women to manage a large territorial collectivity in France. Prior to joining politics, she managed a company between 1987 and 2000. Graduated from the Marseille Ecole supérieure de commerce and after a two-years training abroad, she ran a family textile business of 240 employees. She started in politics in 2001 after she was elected on the municipal list of Jean-Claude Gaudin. She was appointed Deputy Mayor. A year after, she consolidated her political career after her success to the cantonal elections in 2002. She became General Councilor in the canton Marseille 10 and was elected again in 2008. In March 2015 she obtained the presidency of the Conseil département and became the first elected woman head of the Department. In February 2016, she was appointed Departement Secretary of the Republicans party. On 20 september 2018, Martine Vassal is elected President of the Metropole Aix-Marseille Provence.
