President and CEO of the Research Institute for Development
Pr Jean-Paul Moatti is Chairman and CEO of the IRD, appointed in March 2015. He is currently a member of the GSDR (Global Sustainable Development Report), appointed in January 2017 by the Secretary-General of the United Nations from among 15 scientific experts responsible for drafting the UN report on sustainable development in 2019.
In July 2018, he was elected President of the National Alliance for Research on the Environment (ALLEnvi). He was previously Professor of Economics at AMU. He began his career at CEA in the field of environmental risks, before turning to health economics first as a researcher at INSERM where he focused his research on the challenges of developing countries. He has exercised numerous national and international responsibilities: expert with the director of UNAIDS, adviser to the director of the Global Fund, director of the Multi-Agency Thematic Institute of Public Health of AVIESAN, vice-president of the Scientific Council of the ‘INSERM, President of the Scientific Council of INPES and of the ANRS Committee. Jean-Paul Moatti was elevated to the rank of knight of the Legion of Honor in January 2016.
